GUNNAR HANSEN was born in Iceland and moved to the United States at the age of 5. He is best known for playing Leatherface in TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE filmed in 1973. Mr. Hansen had just finished an M.A. in Scandinavian Studies at the University of Texas in Austin. He had appeared in several student productions on campus and was advised by a friend to try out for a role in a horror film being produced locally. The result was Texas Chaisaw Massacre (Vortex / Bryanston Films), one of the most influential horror films ever made, now in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (and filmed right here in Austin!).

Mr. Hansen currently resides in Maine and works primarily as a writer. His film and video writing includes several feature screenplays as well as documentaries. He has also published several books. Islands at the Edge of Time: A Journey To America'S Barrier Islands is currently available in paperback.
